Leg 2
Hampton, VA USA
to
Beaufort, NC USA
The Caribbean 1500 fleet in Hampton, VA.

11/13/00 Beaufort, NC - Well, the second leg of the voyage is complete. We have travelled the Intracoastal Waterway from Hampton, VA to Beaufort, NC. Bill left at Hampton and Kevin has joined the fun until Oriental, NC.

11/7/00 - Hampton to Pungo Ferry, VA - The first day down the ditch. After topping off fuel and water, we set out down the Intracoastal Waterway - "the ditch" - as it is in places aptly named. Passing through and endless array of every type of bridge, we made slow progress and stopped for the night at a marina in Pungo Ferry, VA.

Wow! It really is a ditch!

11/8/00 - Pungo Ferry, VA to Alligator River, NC - up at sunrise and onward! We made the Alligator River Marina, stopped there due to location and the ad in the guide. Nice ad, but the marina is basically a gas station, lunch stop and docks.

It's not all a ditch, a lot of it is very nice.

11/9/00 - Alligator River, NC to Belhaven, NC - another dawn departure and on to Belhaven. Stopped at the River Forest Marina. Great place built around a 1890 Manor house.

Hey, who's steering?

11/10/00 - Belhaven, NC to Oriental, NC - Waited out some winds, and got a late start for the short hop to Oriental. What a wonderful little town. Stayed at the Oriental Marina, near the town dock, nestled right in with the shrimp boats. The people here are among the nicest I have ever met anywhere! Kevin departs for home here.

Brad and Holly

11/13/00 - Oriental, NC to Beaufort, NC - Met up with Brad and Holly (the cruiser's best friends!), who live nearby. They showed me around and took me to the store! I roped Brad and a friend, Ted into joining me for the short run to Beaufort, NC.
