My friend Kevin flew in from Annapolis and we took the boat over to West End. Crossed over in daytime,
leaving just before sunrise and arriving just as the sun was disappearing below the horizon. Which was a
good thing, because the light marking the entrance channel at West End were damaged in Hurricane Wilma and
have not been replaced.
The gulf stream behaved itself, and with an East wind in our faces there were only 2-3 ft swells. As the day
wore on, about 3 hours before sunset the wind clocked around to the south enough to raise the mainsail, which
boosted our speed to 7.5 knots, which allowed us to arrive before dark.

Manjack Cay

Left Great Sale to try for Green Turtle Cay, a long day's sail away. I got to sail the first 2 hours, but as I
eventualy had to turn east, the wind was in my face again for most of the day. I made pretty good time, but was faced
with the choice of arriving at the anchorage outside of New Plymouth on Green Turtle Cay after dark, or just at
sunset - or bailing out a little early and anchoring near the cay just 5 miles to the north of Green Turtle, Manjack Cay.
Due to the time and the wind direction, I was leaning towards Manjack, when I saw some small rain squalls moving over
both of the cays in the distance. As the squalls moved on - too far away to bother me - a brilliant partial rainbow
arc'ed down to the sea right over the Manjack anchorage. Well, that decided it - when the sea gods give you an unmistakable
sign, it is prudent to listen. I anchored at Manjack for the night.

Marsh Harbour
|
The hell with the stats, I'm in the islands... |
|
Finally arrived in Marsh Harbour. I got my wireless internet set up and now I get to work...
So - two weeks go by in Marsh Harbour...
Working a lot, but having fun also.
Watched the Super Bowl with friends on a cold windy night at Snappa's..,
Listening to Bob and Carol (Time Enough) playing Irish jigs and reels...
Cold fronts blowing through, bouncing around for 24-48 hours, not getting off the boat...
Sundowners with Time Enough, Sea Dog, Blue Rhondo... fiddle and guitar playing... singing
Waltzing Matilda and Tie Me Kangaroo Down loudly to the entire anchorage...
Steak Night at the Jib Room with Wings and the Aussies...
Helping Marlee paint her house...
And I'm sportscasting on the Cruiser's Net again.

Treasure Cay
|
|
Went up to Treasure Cay today. My friends James and Allison on Sea Dog are leaving in
the next day or two to go back to the real world so we are seeing them off here before
they cross Whale Cay Passage, which seems to be the big jump back into reality...
But on the way out here today I had a great sail for part of the way at least - the
wind just aft of the beam and the sun coming out from the clouds and the water sparkling
green. Niiiiice....

Here and There
|
|
I've been spending most of my time in Marsh Harbour working, but I did get to go out to
Fisher's Bay and Nipper's for Da Barefoot Man concert, St Patrick's Day in Marsh Harbour and up to Treasure Cay for a pinata party.
My friend Mickey came down for a visit and we went out to Hopetown, Great Guana Cay, Treasure
Cay and then back to Marsh. Found some conch at Baker's Bay and had cracked conch for dinner.
